YESEMEK, 2006. Yesemek Open Air Museum, Turkey

A line with fifty colored flags in the hills above an ancient workshop for sculptures of gods and spirits; in Yesemek, south east Turkey.
The flags are painted with pictures of items that are forbidden to take in your hand luggage on a plane. Fear of terrorism has turned these everyday-objects into threats.
The installation refers to the Tibetan custom of offering flags to the mountain gods for a safe journey. In Yesemek the flags were offered to restore the utensils to their original state, free from fear.
